“Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is not; a sense of humor to console him for what he is” (Francis Bacon). Humor says a lot about a nation’s culture, values, and wayof living. Humor is very important in everyone’s life, and it says a lot about our personality.

The good sense of humor of a nation tells us a lot about its people. When the people of a nationhave a great sense of humor, it is usually because they are happy and funny people, who always know how to enjoy the good things in life, who can laugh at themselves in any situation. They don’t spendtheir lives worrying about the future, they just live day-by-day, always seeing the glass half-full, and enjoy everything life puts in front of them, and they share that joy with everyone around them.They always have a positive attitude towards life.

The bad sense of humor of a nation can also tell us a lot about its people. When the people of a nation don’t have a good sense of humor it isusually because they are far too sober and conservative. They are probably embittered people who never step out of their routine. They have probably been living their lives in the same way for hundredsof years and they are afraid of trying something new. They take life too seriously, and can’t afford to just chill and relax and laugh at themselves for a while.

The sense of humor of a nationalso tells us a lot about the values of its people. The perception of what is funny and what is not, is not the same for everyone, and usually depends on people’s values. For example, if somebody fallsfrom the stairs, some people may find it hilarious, and won’t stop laughing probably for a week, but other people may not find it funny at all, they would probably get worried about that person, andthey would help him out. The people who would help that person have strong moral values, such as solidarity, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t laugh at least a little bit inside; because let’s…
